Book Summary

When high school junior Natalie--or Dr. Aphrodite, as she calls herself when writing the relationship column for her school paper--is accused of knowing nothing about guys and giving girls bad relationship advice, she decides to investigate what guys really think and want. But the guys in her class won't give her straight or serious answers. The only solution? Disguising herself as a guy and spending a week at Underwood Academy, the private all-boy boarding school in town. There she learns a lot about guys and girls in ways she never expected--especially when she falls for her dreamy roommate, Emilio. How can she show him she likes him without blowing her cover? Book Review

Rating: 4/5

Babe in Boyland is a big WOW!

That was a fun read. I never imagined it would keep me smiling, grinning and laughing the whole time. Okay - the first part maybe a little too boring, but it picked up easily, and I couldn't put it down.

The whole book is filled with intelligent humor, new metaphors and interesting thoughts that would keep you turning each pages for Nat's adventure. There was this thrill of being caught and reprimanded that will keep your heart beating faster.

I love Natalie, I like how her character grew within days after her experience in Underwood. Her friends are fun too, they were very supportive to her cause. They were really great friends. The boys in Underwood were interesting as well, there was Josh, Tyler and his friends and of course, Emilio. I so love his theory about Girls and their ring tones - a very interesting perspective.

Babe in Boyland ends with Natalie finally having answers to her questions about how boys really think. But is important is that Natalie finally realizes about her past mistakes, apologized for it and became a better person.

Favorite Quotes

“I sometimes suspect they don't take Dr. Aphrodite very seriously. Which is sad, really. Because what's more serious than love?”

“Art boy is obviously intimidated. You're like the sun and he's squinting up at you, barely able to see because of your blinking radiance”

“Supposedly, guys think about sex every eight seconds. If that's true, how can they talk to their grandmothers?”

“POKSI (Physically Okay but Socially Inept)”

“These guys may not talk too much about relationships, but they sure do blush at telling moments, don’t they? Maybe that’s the key to understanding the opposite sex; I could invent a science, call it blushology.”

“Maybe illusion and artifice—lies, even—are a necessary part of romance.”

“If he’s just not into you anymore, then buy yourself a cute pair of shoes and strut your fabulousness elsewhere.”
