What would happen if you lost everything? If the people who were supposed to love you unconditionally were no longer there for you, how would your world change?

Madeleine Becker lost everything when her parents died when she was ten years old. Ripped from her home and everything that she has ever loved, she is forced to start all over again. The only way for her to move on is to build walls around her heart and keep everyone at a safe distance. Her logic: she can't get hurt if she doesn't fall in love.

That theory is blown to pieces when she meets Reid Connely during her freshman year at college. He is gorgeous and darkly mysterious. He understands Maddy's pain all too well, but sharing his pain would mean breaking down the walls he put up around his own heart. Conflicted between loving Maddy and hiding his dark past, Reid starts to reevaluate his world. Maddy's inner strength, snarky personality and breath taking beauty help Reid to make peace with his past.

Together they find out what happens when they let love in

Letting Love In may not be as easy for some people especially for those who have experienced a great sense of loss.

What happens when two emotionally scarred people found and fell in love with each other?

Maddy's parents died when she was ten years old, and everything was never the same again. She moved in with her aunt and started a new life. She surrounded her heart with walls and didn't allow anyone in. Maddy kept everyone at a safe distance. Her heart is safe, or so she thought until she met Reid.

Reid has the same walls that surrounds his heart. He treats girls and relationship likes his clothes. He didn't want to get attached to anyone, more like formed a serious relationship, but one look at Maggie and he knew that this girl sees through him. It scares the hell out of him, but seeing her with other men blurred his senses. He wants her for his own. Reid did everything for Maddy, for her to be happy. But, will he be able to share his dark past?
For the first time ever, I want a girl for more than just one night, for more than just sex. She's alive and vibrant. I just feel like she sees me, the real me. Scares the shit out of me, but I can't deny it any longer.
The secondary characters plays important roles as well especially Melanie, Maddy's friend. She's a best friend a girl could ever have. She haven't given up on Maddy even though she was a closed book. She welcomed her to their home and made her part of her family.

I wished Maddie had therapy. Losing both your parents at a young age and having no one to turn to will cause trauma in the mind of a ten-year old kid. She deserves security, and perhaps someone to talk to to ease the burden and the grief she was going through. But Maddie had none of these, and despite that fact, she survived. I also admired her when she finally decided to live her life:

Choose Happy. Appreciate beauty. Let love in.

They decided to give it a try, but with both of them unsure of how to let the other one in, everything gets complicated and in a tangled mess. Especially when an unknown number keeps on popping up Reid's cellphone. Secrets soon unfold and unexpected surprises surfaced, not just for Maddy but for Reid as well. Did Maddy made the right decision in giving Reid her heart? Will Reid be able to open up to her?
I think she's just tired of being sad, and she's making a conscious effort of letting herself be happy. I think you play a part in that happiness, Reid, so don't go do anything stupid to fuck it up.
Melissa Collins made an extremely good job in telling a story about two scarred people trying to shun love from their lives, but then found it in each other. This is one of those novels where you keep on hoping that the two characters will have their own happy ending because they desperately need it. Letting Love In is a story about losing love-ones, moving on, and finally opening oneself to love. It's an inspiration for people who experienced a great sense of loss and is unable to move on.

I enjoyed reading Let Love In, I admit it was the purple cover that had me at first. But reading through it made me eagerly anticipating to read the next one in the series.

What is it about men and yelling at a game on television? Don't they realize they can't change the outcome, no matter how loudly they yell?
