A Boys of the South Novel
Released January 20, 2014
New Adult Contemporary

From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author, Marquita Valentine, comes the 4th book in her new adult series, BOYS OF THE SOUTH.

There's only one place in the world Lacey Evans feels normal- the roller derby track. When she laces up her skates and fastens her helmet, she's powerful and in charge. She knows exactly what to do and what to say. The rules are clear and penalties are enforced for those who don't follow them. But in the read world, she's far from powerful and in charge. She never knows exactly what to do and say. For years, she counted on one person to be exactly who he said he was--her best friend, Wyatt Tanaka. Only she changed the rules on him, without any warning, and now she's the one being punished.

Marine veteran, Wyatt Tanaka, came home to a heroes welcome. But he's hiding a secret, one that could potential destroy his life. He's doing the best he can, trying to cope with the guilt and the pain of the girl he loves pushing him away by doing all the things he'd sworn not too. Women, bars, drugs and drinking are what consume him. With Lacey's new rules, he has nothing to hold on to. Nothing to keep in from feeling dead.

Then one night, he goes too far, gets in too deep, and when the truth comes out... will Lacey keep pushing him away or help save him?

MY REVIEW -
The first part, I was like:

STOP WHINING AND GO TELL HER YOUR FEELINGS!

I hate watching Wyatt pathetically moping, doing something unimaginable as an escape not just to forget about the ‘rejection’, but the pain and bad memories the war have left him. It was a struggle watching him plummet and waste his life. It didn’t help when guilt was haunting him because of the death of one of his closest friend.

Lacey had PANIC ATTACKS since then. She didn’t know what started it, or where did it came from. All she wanted was Wyatt, but after hearing how his mother didn’t want her for him – she didn’t fight for her feelings. She pushed him away – which broke not just her heart but his. After that kiss – both of them knew that they could never go back to their old comfortable friendship. The chemistry was too strong to ignore.

WTF, LACEY! ARE YOU JUST GOING TO WATCH HIM WITH HER?

Wyatt decided he should move on. He decided to give Lacey a little something to ponder on – when he decided to date, and give her a date as well. It was the worse double date of the season. I wanted to smash their heads together to make them wake up from their trance. I wish one of them would just tell the other about their feelings. But once one of them would bring up – something would happen.

It took a little while, and a whole lot of frustrations before the inevitable finally happen. One trip to the hospital finally made them decide that they should be together. BUT (there’s this BUT of course) – there’s still Lacey’s PANIC ATTACKS, and once she knew the real reason behind it, she can’t let Wyatt go through with it…

Wyatt, on the other hand, he was finally sober, and clean and ready to love. He would do anything for her, and he doesn’t care what she has – he would have her anyway. He loved her immensely, and he wouldn’t waste a moment more of his life without her. Now, if he could only convince Lacey.

The fourth book in BOYS OF THE SOUTH series, and honestly this is just the first one I read in this series. It’s a blessing they are stand-alone novels. You can pick up one, read it, then drool for the rest of the series once you are done with it.

Because that is what Marquita Valentine did to me – after reading about Wyatt and Lacey: she made me crave for the rest of the Boys of the South. I enjoyed reading this novel very much. It was short, sweet, and heartwarming. It’s a story about family, friendship and love. Here’s two imperfect couple, who started out as friends, and found the perfect love with each other.

I loved it and fell in love with it.
