She can forgive, but can she forget?

Some days, Everly still thinks she sees him. In the food court at the mall, or in a car speeding past as the light changes. It only lasts a second, but when it happens, she slips back to a time when she was ruled-and nearly ruined-by August Kincaid. And it doesn't matter that she's moved on, that she's about to marry another man. In those moments the only thing she can do to regain control is take a deep breath and remind herself that August can't hurt her-because he's in a coma. Except that he's not anymore.

August is awake. With no memories, he sets out to solve the mystery of his lost life. He unearths a photograph of a beautiful redhead named Everly and knows instinctively that she's the key. But when he finds her, the August she describes is more monster than man.

Tortured by the thought of having hurt her, August wants only to become the man Everly deserves. As the new August emerges, Everly glimpses the person she first fell in love with. But can she trust that this August is real? When the final secret of their shared past is revealed, one of them will make a choice that changes their future forever . . .

One thing I kept on whining while reading this book was the fact that I wanted to know the ending. And when I did, it upholds to the old saying: be careful of what you wish for. Argh. This book should come with a warning!

Nevertheless, I held my judgment on Ryan, August and Everly until the end of the book, and I might hold it a little bit longer until the next book is release. Oh yes, that was the warning I was talking about – because all those twist and turns that made my heart ache and break, there’s still moreeeee! There’s a second book coming along! So, here I was on the last chapter, the energy never faded, I was still amp: and I found the last page, and it was like: OMG. Is this happening?!

With these three characters, you wouldn’t know what to expect. Heck, I stopped expecting anything when I got tired with all the running. I just continued to read, and pin for them, cheering for them when they’re at their happiest, feeling sad when their at their lowest, and wanting to get inside the book and slap the heck out of them when they’re making some stupid mistakes.

No one is perfect. NO ONE. But what if after all the mistakes in the past, you are given a second chance? A clean slate to begin with? Is that a blessing or a curse?

August woke up from a two-year coma with no memories. He was desperately grasping for anything that could make him remember the who’s, the how’s, and the why’s of his life. And here comes the girl whom he felt a strange connection to but is feeling that palpable anger towards him. What did he do to deserve such anger?

Everly – are you a heroine or a villain? It remains to be seen. Almost two years and she has finally moved on. She was about to get married to someone who loved her, and wants to be with her. She was working at a coffee shop that she loved and she was finally living her life – until that phone call came and telling her he woke up. It was her nightmare was coming into life. But once she saw her – she was surprised to find him: he still looks the same, feels the same but somehow different. Would she give him another chance after everything she’d been through? Or would she embrace the present that brought her the safety and stability that she needs?

As for Ryan – I was torn. Torn. Torn. I love Ryan, I really do. He was her knight in shining armor. A gentle person who have loved her unconditionally. He was just amazingly understanding with her, and what she needs. He never pressures her at any point. Ryan is a saint. But would there comes a time that he would snap? I certainly hope not.

This is not my favorite genre. It never it. But with J.L. Berg, she brought me to a world that is somehow familiar, but yet different. It’s not action-packed, but it gives you a sense of suspense and thrill. The amount of drama was just perfect, and the angst. Every page will make you hold on to your seat. Every twist and turn will surprise you, and it wouldn’t end until you have finally reached the final page of the novel. So get your hearts ready, people! J.L. Berg, you got yourself another winner here.
